The European Parliament has been in the political limelight since it forced the Santer Commission to resign over fraud and corruption. In fact what the world witnessed was a lobby controlled Assembly at war with the European Commission. After the crisis which is impacting on the euro, the key EU institutions - Parliament, Council of Ministers and Commission - need to regain their balance quickly. But another drama, this time on food safety, threatens to engulf them and the infighting looks set to continue. Meanwhile prior to June 13 elections eurodespondency has hit rock bottom and voter turn out could be as low as 15% in some countries.
